About Me
I am a dedicated and seasoned educational leader with a a passion for growing school leaders who now serves as Deputy Executive Director for Advocacy at TASA as well as a professional executive coach.
During my time as superintendent of Northside ISD, my staff and I developed a comprehensive leadership development pipeline program to grow campus and department leaders. The program includes a partnership with a local university that allows NISD and university staff to co-teach the curriculum.
I began coaching fellow superintendents in 2022, and in 2023, I transitioned from the superintency to becoming a full-time school advocate as well as an executive coach, offering to those roles a unique blend of coaching and leadership prowess that guides individuals and organizations toward sustainable personal and professional growth and fulfillment. With substantial and ongoing training, I am armed with transformational tools and a deep commitment to fostering meaningful change and development for coaching clients. I have several clients who range from novice to very experienced school leaders.
I began my career in NISD in 1992 as a social studies teacher and I’ve also worked as an assistant principal, vice principal, principal, assistant superintendent and deputy superintendent. I was named the Texas Superintendent of the Year in 2018 and was a finalist for the National Superintendent of the Year award in 2019. In 2022 I was honored with the Golden Deeds award for service to school communities across Texas.
I hold a bachelor’s degree in political science from The University of Texas at Austin and a master’s degree and a doctorate in educational leadership from the University of Texas at San Antonio.
I am a past president of TASA and the Texas School Alliance, and I serve as a member of the board for both the United Way of San Antonio and the American Heart Association.
My wife, Meredith, and I have a son who is a graduate of Northside ISD and is currently a college student.
