TASA Legislative & Public Policy Services

Legislative advocacy on behalf of Texas schoolchildren is one of the most important benefits of TASA membership. Our Governmental Relations team helps us maintain the visibility and respect needed to effectively advocate for public schools. They work directly with legislators and other state leaders as well as alongside other education associations to both advance our priorities and defend against legislation that would negatively impact public schools and students. These efforts require significant time, energy, and resources — beyond that funded by regular membership dues.

Your Support Helps Us Be More Effective Advocates for Public Schools

Your district’s participation in TASA’s Legislative and Public Policy Services allows TASA to dedicate the resources needed to monitor and influence legislative and public policy matters on behalf of your district.

Retain experts in the field of public school finance and TRS-related matters. These experts provide analysis and technical assistance, and prepare formal responses to plans under consideration by the Legislature.

Provide research to support legislation that aligns with our TASA Legislative Priorities or to counter inaccurate or misleading claims by those who seek to defund and dismantle Texas public education.

Compile talking points on critical public education issues to equip school leaders for when they speak with their legislators, the media, or within their communities.

How Superintendents May Support LPPS

The participation year runs September 1-August 31.

Step 1

Log in to the TASA Member Services Center. (If you have not yet logged in to this new system, launched in April 2024, find important information on doing so here.)

Step 2

Using the left navigation on your profile page, click on Membership & Subscriptions.

Step 3

On the Membership page, scroll down to find the “Join/Renew TASA or Partner Organization” button. Click on that link to enter the TASA membership application (even if you are already a current member).

Please note: 2023-24 TASA memberships expire August 31, and you may renew for 2024-25 (or join for the first time) starting in early August. You may renew/join and add on LPPS all at the same time by following this process.

Step 4

Update the application as necessary, advancing through the screens until you reach the page that provides a menu of options to join.

Step 5

If you are already a current TASA member and are just adding on support for LPPS, uncheck the “Add to Cart” box under TASA Membership.

Do not uncheck that box if you need to renew your membership for 2024-25 or if you are not a member but want to join for 2024-25.

Step 6

Scroll down to the next section, “Optional TASA Add-Ons” and under “TASA Legislative and Public Policy Services,” click the option that matches the ADA for your district. If you are not a superintendent, you will not be able to see this section.

Step 7

Scroll down to the bottom of the page and click on “Add to Cart.”

Step 8

After the next page loads, click on “Check Out” to go to the page where you will enter your payment information and complete your purchase.
