The House Subcommittee on Academic & Career-Oriented Education will meet at 8 a.m., Thursday, May 1, 2025, to hear invited and public testimony on the following bills:

HB 1079 Curry – The bill proposes the inclusion of Junior Reserve Officer Training Corps (JROTC) and Leadership Officer Training Corps (LOTC) programs as recognized CTE programs in public schools. It also integrates these programs into the public school accountability system as indicators of military readiness and provides additional funding allocations for schools offering these programs.

HB 3651 LaHood – The bill proposes the introduction of an elective high school course on automobile maintenance in Texas, starting with the 2025-26 school year. This course would provide students with practical skills in vehicle upkeep, including fluid checks, tire maintenance, battery care, and understanding dashboard warnings, alongside safe automotive practices.

HB 4980 Wilson – The bill proposes the establishment of the Child-Care Professional Pathway program, which would allow high school students to concurrently earn diplomas and certifications or degrees in child-care related fields through partnerships between schools and higher education institutions.
