June 21 and 22: Senate “To Protect All Texans” Special Committee
The special committee appointed by Lt. Gov. Dan Patrick following the Uvalde mass shooting and chaired by Sen. Robert Nichols will hold a public hearing at 9 a.m. Tuesday, June 21, to hear invited and public testimony on school safety, police training, and social media.

The special committee will meet again the next day, Wednesday, June 22, at 9 a.m. to hear invited and public testimony on mental health and firearm safety.

June 23: House Homeland Security & Public Safety
The House Homeland Security & Public Safety Committee will meet jointly with the Select Committee on Youth Health & Safety, with invited testimony only, on Thursday, June 23, at 10 a.m. to consider the following joint charges on Mass Violence Prevention and Community Safety:
- Charge #1: Study the implementation and impact of Senate Bill 11 (86th Legislature, Regular Session) and any other pertinent laws. Identify additional policies, protocols, and strategies that will help create a safer environment in schools and local communities.
- Charge #2: Examine strategies to prevent acts of violence, including measures to enhance firearm safety in Texas.
- Charge #3: Evaluate the preparedness of and coordination between state and local agencies, non governmental entities, and law enforcement for the prevention of and response to mass violence, including the content and efficacy of active shooter response training.
The Committee will hear Charges 4 and 5 at a later date.

June 28: Senate Finance Committee
The Senate Finance Committee will meet Tuesday, June 28, 2022, at 10 a.m. to hear invited and public testimony on the following interim charge:
Mental Health Service Delivery: Examine the state mental health service delivery system. Study the state’s Comprehensive Plan for State-Funded Inpatient Mental Health Services and the Statewide Behavioral Health Strategic Plan and evaluate the existing state investments in mental health services and state hospital capacity. Review current forensic and civil mental health service waitlists, and recommend ways to improve coordination and outcomes to reduce waitlists. Explore and report on options for additional mental health service capacity, including building state hospitals in the Panhandle and Rio Grande Valley areas.
Public testimony is limited to two minutes. If submitting written testimony, please provide 40 copies, with your name on each copy, to the Committee during the hearing.
