Dear TASA members and partners,
The devastating flooding along the Guadalupe River on July 4 that resulted in the heartbreaking loss of so many lives, including those of young children, have people here in Texas and around the world mourning alongside the families and communities affected by this terrible tragedy.
Many of you have reached out to me and my staff with offers of support. As always, the compassion and generosity of the education community shine through in times of crisis. While not all affected districts are in a position to accept assistance directly, efforts are underway to coordinate support in a meaningful way.
To help streamline donations, Dr. Jeff Goldhorn, executive director of Region 20 ESC, has shared guidance for those wishing to support five impacted districts — Hunt, Ingram, Kerrville, Comfort, and Center Point ISDs. In his message to area districts, he recommends the following:
“We kindly request that you direct your generous support to the following two critical areas, which will provide the most effective and immediate assistance to those on the ground:
The Community Foundation of the Texas Hill Country — The Community Foundation of the Texas Hill Country walks alongside the communities impacted by this flood every single day. They are very well equipped to help your donations meet the greatest needs on the ground. All donations are tax-deductible, and you will receive a receipt for your gift. Direct donation link.
H-E-B, Walmart, Lowe’s, Home Depot Gift Cards — Gift cards provide immediate flexibility for families to purchase essential items like food, clothing, and other necessities as they begin to rebuild their lives. Drop off or mail gift cards to:
Education Service Center, Region 20, Building 1
c/o Leida Morales
1314 Hines Avenue
San Antonio, TX 78208″
Thank you for your generous spirit and for lifting up these communities and families during such a challenging time as this.
-TASA Executive Director Kevin Brown, Ed.D.
