A summary outlining the provisions of the committee substitute for HB 2 (Buckley/Creighton) began making the rounds at the Capitol just as the Senate Committee on Education K-16 posted a hearing for 9 a.m. on Thursday, May 15, to hear testimony on the bill.
The committee substitute is substantially different than the House version of the bill, directing $4.2 billion to teacher compensation instead of to the basic allotment.
CSHB 2 also includes:
- $270 million for teacher preparation, certification, and rights
- $1.3 billion for special education
- $677 million for early learning
- $153 million for CTE
- $1.3 billion for school finance reforms that include a $55 increase to the basic allotment
The exact language of the bill is not available, but the summary is available for download.
On Thursday, testimony will be limited to two minutes, and those wishing to submit written testimony should provide 13 copies to committee staff.
