On November 7, 2019, TEA announced the appointees to two new committees created as a result of HB 3. The Special Education Allotment Advisory Committee will develop and make recommendations regarding methods of financing special education. The Compensatory Education Allotment Advisory Committee will advise TEA on rules on specific criteria and methods used in determining the allotment.
We congratulate the following TASA members, who were appointed to serve on these committees: Denise Blanchard, principal, Banquete ISD; Diane Frost, superintendent, Corsicana ISD; Gonzalo Salazar, superintendent, Los Fresnos CISD; Karen Smith, chief financial officer, Cypress-Fairbanks, ISD; and Brian Woods, superintendent, Northside ISD.
In October 2019, TEA announced that HB 3 created a Reading Advisory Committee that will advise the agency on current plans that support reading. Congratulations to TASA member David Vinson, superintendent, Wylie ISD (Region 10), who was appointed to that committee.
We thank these school leaders for their efforts on behalf of Texas public schools.
