TASA and TASB staff worked together to prepare written public comments on a proposed commissioner’s rule relating to a school district’s accreditation status.
The proposed rule provides that a district’s accreditation status will be lowered if the district receives a D rating for two consecutive years and will continue to lower with subsequent D ratings. This proposed rule conflates accountability details with accreditation details and would unnecessarily broaden the accreditation framework, using the D rating in a way that the Legislature did not intend for it to be used.
The public comment period has concluded, but we will keep TASA members informed when the rules are finalized and adopted by the agency.
