The Texas House Appropriations Committee will meet at 8 a.m. Thursday, September 8, to hear only invited testimony on several topics, including the following:
- Teacher Retirement System of Texas – Provide an overview of the TRS Fund and implementation of SB 321.
- Interim Charge 4 – Monitor efforts by the Department of Family and Protective Services to implement Section 11, HB 5 (87th Texas Legislature, Second Special Session, relating to foster care capacity improvement. Examine the current status of children without placement in the State’s care.
The committee will also meet the following day, Friday, September 9, starting at 8 a.m., to hear only invited testimony on the following:
- Interim Charge 6 – Elementary and Secondary School Emergency Relief Fund Expenditures (invited testimony by TEA representatives)
- Examine options for increasing access to and affordability of successfully obtaining post-secondary degrees and credentials.
Reminder: House Pub Ed/Higher Ed Committees to Meet on Teacher Shortage on September 20
The Texas House Public Education Committee will meet jointly with the Higher Education Committee at 10 a.m., Tuesday, September 20, to hear invited and public testimony on a joint interim charge related to the impact of the pandemic on the state’s teacher workforce and current practices to improve the recruitment, preparation, and retention of high-quality educators.
