About Me

As superintendent of Sunnyvale ISD from 2007 to 2023, I led the district through a dynamic time that included many significant changes. Through solid consensus-building and community relations, the district’s board and I unified a divided community and successfully passed three bond packages as well as a successful Tax Ratification Election in 2019 and another VATRE in 2022. I managed the construction of new campuses, athletic facilities, and a competition-level auditorium.

Prior to my time in Sunnyvale, I worked in four other school districts. I served as the principal at Brownsboro High School and as assistant principal at Winnsboro High School after serving as the athletic director, head football coach, and as a teacher. I also taught and coached in positions at Leonard and Fannindel High Schools.

I have always been a strong advocate for Texas public schools and school transformation, and doing what’s best for kids. Although retired, I remain committed to shifting the mindset in Texas public education from high-stakes testing to preparing students for today’s world. As the president of TASA, a position I held in 2021-22, I advocated for school finance reform and local accountability for school districts. My TASA leadership roles also included serving as vice president and as the chair of the TASA Legislative Committee.

My wife, Kris, and I have lived in Sunnyvale since I began working for the district. We have three children: Emily, who is married to Caine; Caleb, who is married to Megan; and Olivia, who is married to Seth. We have two grandchildren, Lyla and Calvin.
