Future-Ready Superintendents Leadership Institute

The Future-Ready Superintendents Leadership Institute (FRSLI) was a cadre of superintendents and senior-level district administrators in the early stages of their careers selected by TASA in 2012 to help develop and initiate innovative, systemic changes, both locally and statewide, that support the mission of the original Public Education Visioning Institute and the Texas High Performance Schools Consortium.

2012-13 TASA President Jeff Turner wanted to bring a group of school leaders together who were willing to expand their leadership beyond the local level and propel Mission: School Transformation forward.

Of the 57 applicants, 39 participants were selected. The Institute was designed based on elements of project-­based learning, action research, the flipped classroom and design thinking.

FRSLI members worked in teams, with the help of facilitator Shannon Buerk, for the next year to produce tools for use across Texas to advance the work outlined in the TASA visioning document. In addition to an infographic, video, and slide presentation, they created “The Moral Imperative: From Vision to Action,” a report that captured the Institute’s desire to launch the visioning document published by the Public Education Visioning Institute in 2008 into action.

FRSLI participants gained enhanced capabilities to lead in times of change; increased capacity to transform the system, including a sustained collaborative network among the participants; and clarity of vision as the participants create models of student-­centered schools across the state.
