TASA’s “Inspiring Leaders” tagline is not just a reminder of TASA’s commitment to leadership development; it describes our members themselves — school leaders who inspire others as they work to prepare future-ready students. Meet Kathy Rollo, one of those Inspiring Leaders.
Since 2018, Kathy Rollo has served as superintendent in her home district of Lubbock ISD, where she has spent all 38 years of her career in education. Chris Moran, superintendent of San Angelo ISD, says Rollo is an Inspiring Leader because of her expertise and professionalism, as well as her loyalty to the entire Lubbock community.
“Kathy is well-respected locally and at the state level,” Moran says. “Her integrity and love for public education shine daily, and she is so personable with every person she meets. Her humility is only outpaced by her tenacity to provide a great education for all of her students.”
In a career that can be isolating, it’s Rollo’s connection to her community that keeps her inspired in the face of challenges.
“As a lifelong Lubbockite, my love for this community is deeply embedded in who I am as a leader and human,” she says. “My passion for building a strong future for Lubbock and West Texas gives me the courage to lead through even the most stressful and challenging issues we face. My faith and my family provide me with the fuel I need to keep charging ahead.”
Rollo says her involvement with TASA has helped her build connections and develop a strong network of thought partners and problem solvers.
“I cannot imagine serving in this role without the relationships I have made through TASA,” Rollo says. “Serving on the TASA Advocacy Committee over the last several years has been a powerful way to build my understanding of the political landscape and how to best advocate for public schools in general.”
