The House Elections Committee will meet at 10:30 a.m., Thursday, April 3, 2025, or upon final adjournment of the House to hear testimony on a number of bills, including one related to the distribution of voter registration forms.

HB 1489 Oliverson – The proposed legislation establishes stricter controls over how voter registration application forms are distributed in Texas. Under the newly added Section 13.009 of the Election Code, officers and employees of the state or its political subdivisions are explicitly prohibited from distributing voter registration forms to individuals who have not requested them. This change aims to regulate the proactive distribution of voter registration applications. The bill forbids the use of public funds for facilitating the distribution of these forms by others to unrequested individuals. In an exception to this rule, political parties and candidates for office remain allowed to distribute voter registration forms regardless of requests.
