December 4-5 Event Details
The design team for this event is building an experience around the theme “Student Ownership and Agency.” The event will primarily be held in the Community Room at Challenger Columbia Stadium in Webster, Texas. Participating FRSLN members will meet 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., Wednesday, December 4, then enjoy a group reception and dinner. Members will reconvene 8 a.m. to noon, Thursday, December 5. Dress for both days will be business casual. Participants are encouraged to bring a tablet or other personal electronic device to the event. Additional details, including an event agenda, will be shared with FRSLN members closer to the event date.
During this event, FRSLN members will have the opportunity to visit campuses in both Clear Creek ISD and Galveston ISD, explore ways to embed student agency and ownership into their school day, and find ideas to launch new learning into their districts. Participants will understand how learner voice, choice, and agency connect to the core tenets of the visioning documents; reflect on ownership and agency by the designers and the learners; observe and better understand the systems necessary to impact learner voice, choice and agency; learn ways to include student agency, voice and choice; reflect on the current and desired state of their own districts; set a goal to include elements of student agency in their districts; and build relationships with new and current FRSLN members.
Overnight accommodations, as needed on the night(s) of Tuesday, December 3, and/or Wednesday, December 4, are to be arranged on an individual basis. FRSLN members should refer to the email they received on October 29 for details.
Fees and Additional Seats
The fee to cover all three 2019-20 event-related expenses is $695 per participating superintendent. Superintendents who were chosen to participate may request up to three additional seats for members of their team (central office or campus leaders) for an additional $595 each. If superintendents choose to add extra seats, they do not have to bring the same three team members to all FRSLN events; they may bring different leaders to each event. Before each event, they will be asked to provide the name(s) of team members who will attend with them. Please note that superintendents who are selected to participate must attend FRSLN events with their team members; team members may not be sent in their place.
