H-E-B Excellence in Education Awards

HEB Education Awards H-E-B launched the Excellence in Education Awards program in cooperation with TASA in 2002 as a positive way to support public education in Texas. The awards celebrate public school professionals whose leadership and dedication inspire a love of learning in students of all backgrounds and abilities.

With more than $800,000 in cash prizes awarded annually to deserving teachers, principals, school districts and early childhood facilities, the H‑E‑B Excellence in Education Awards is the largest monetary recognition program for educators in Texas and one of the largest in the nation.

Judging is conducted in cooperation with TASA, Texas Association of Secondary School Principals (TASSP), and the Texas Elementary Principals and Supervisors Association (TEPSA).

    Early Childhood Awards
The H‑E‑B Excellence in Education Early Childhood Award is designed to support public or private schools that focus on the care and education of children under the age of 5. The purpose of the award is to offer support to help create or enhance kinder readiness programs that prepare children to enter kindergarten socially and academically ready to learn. The five regional finalists will each be presented with a check for $5,000 to apply toward the enhancement of existing kinder readiness activities or creating new programs for the target population. The overall state winner will be announced and awarded an additional $25,000 grant to apply toward enhancing existing kinder readiness programs or creating a new program for the target population.

    A Focus on Excellence

In addition to recognizing and awarding cash prizes to educators and districts, an important goal of the H-E-B Excellence in Education program is to spotlight best practices of Texas schools and educators. Districts across the state can benefit by learning about the programs in other districts that the H-E-B Excellence in Education volunteer judges feel exemplify excellence in education, so TASA is proud to showcase those districts here and in our INSIGHT publication.
